Ceramic coating vs wax
Think about wax and ceramic coatings as two different roads that lead to the same destination. They are different materials that perform the same task: protect your vehicle’s exterior surfaces. Both provide a sacrificial layer that is intended to shield your car’s surface from sun exposure, moisture and environmental pollution. Wax is the old, winding 2-lane road that leads into town and ceramic is the new, 6-lane wide expressway that gets you there in half the time.

Your ceramic coating questions answered.
What is ceramic coating? Industry-grade ceramic coating is a chemical polymer solution that is applied to the exterior of a vehicle to protect it from external paint damage. Typically applied by hand, it blends with the paint of your car and creates an additional hydrophobic layer of protection.
Installing a ceramic coating is an extremely tedious process. Below is a breakdown of how ceramic coatings are installed.
100% Hand Car Wash
Using PH neutral soap and a clean wash mitt and safe towel to dry.
Clay bar treatment to mechanically decontaminate the paint followed by a chemical decontamination with iron removers.
Labor intensive Machine Paint Correction
We must make your car’s paint as close to perfect as possible so that we don’t seal those defects under the coating.
Surface Cleansing Coating Prep
We apply an alcohol-based cleansing solution to give the coating a proper surface to bond too. Unlike wax coatings bond to your clear coat.
Tedious Panel by Panel Installation
We apply the coating panel-by-panel with an applicator and special soft towels to prevent further damage.
Ceramic coatings last anywhere from 6 months to 7+ years depending on the formula.
The cost of a ceramic coating ranges from $700 – $3000 depending on two factors. How much paint correction is required & how much durability is desired.
Removing a ceramic coating requires labor intensive cutting and polishing with a machine polisher, pads, and abrasive compounds. You must be very careful to not go past the clearcoat.
A ceramic coating bonds to your clear coat and a wax does not. A wax also diminishes with heat and chemicals ceramic coatings are chemically and UV resistant.
The installation of a ceramic coating can take anywhere from 6-15 hours depending on the condition of your vehicles paint since most of the time is spent in paint correction pre-install.
The best way to maintain a ceramic coating is to hand wash your vehicle using a PH balanced soap diluted properly. You should consider drying the vehicle with a blower or extremely soft towel with little pressure.
